Senior Center Opening February 1st
January 27, 2016
MONDAY, February 1, 2016 - is a day that will live in infamy, at least in Revere and especially for Revere seniors who have been without their home for nine weeks. The Rossetti-Cowan Senior Center roof renovation has been completed and the staff and I are ready to welcome our seniors and each of you back with open arms on Monday, February 1, 2016.
Since November 30th, a total of nine weeks, The Elder Affairs and Rossetti-Cowan Senior Center staff has been administering to senior’s needs, moving multiple products and items to and from the Joseph L. Mottolo Post each day, embracing new and added responsibilities, and maintaining our regular everyday office duties. Thank you staff! And, thank you to all our instructors who I know are now anxious to get back to their routine working and teaching our tremendous seniors in their respective classes. More importantly – thank you seniors for your perseverance and patience during this time period.
Thank-you to our state delegation (State Representatives and State Senator), particularly Speaker of the House Representative Bob DeLeo, the Mayor’s office, Priscilla Nickerson, Co-Chair of the Elder Affairs Committee of Moving Revere Forward, and those specific committee members who attended all the meetings, for all their influence and persistence in helping to acquire funds to make this roof renovation possible.
- Good News! Taking advantage of this opportunity while this exterior work has been happening, on returning to 25 Winthrop Avenue seniors will enter a freshly painted, bright, cheery-looking entrance hall and first floor. The yellow color that covers the walls is dramatic yet soothing. I eagerly await the senior’s responses that I know will be all over the board. Be assured, everything we do as a staff is to improve and cater to the needs of our most treasured citizens.
The Revere Office of Elder Affairs and Rossetti-Cowan Senior Center continues to reshape, re-invigorate, and re-evaluate our offering of excellent meals, programs, services activities, and transportation for seniors to the best of our ability. We have strived to become a welcoming and inviting Senior Center, embedded and passionately involved in the Revere community and in the lives of senior we serve each day. Over the last two and a half years we have really changed the culture and perception of the Revere Rossetti-Cowan Senior Center. The senior population is the largest, single, and fastest-growing segment of Revere. As of the last census the recorded number of seniors (over 60 years old) in Revere is just over 10,000. We serve 27% of them and our participants are growing as well.
