Final day of the 2016 Revere Special Olympics Young Athletes Program To Be Held Saturday, November 19
November 3, 2016
The Special Olympics Young Athletes Program will celebrate its last week of the season on Saturday, November 19th from 10:30am-12:30pm at the Paul Revere School. It will be an exciting opportunity to see our young athletes receive certificates for completing the program.
The event will begin with a torch parade led by the Revere Police Department. The young athletes will then get to participate in various sporting activities. The event will culminate with a luncheon provided by Kelly's Roast Beef.
This eight week program has been a tremendous success. There has been on average about 20 volunteers working with the children each week. Volunteers have been students in middle and high school, teachers, grandparents to city officials. Local businesses and city residents have also donated raffle items to help raise money for the program.
The Young Athletes Program, for kids with intellectual disabilities between age 2 and 7, gives children the opportunity to learn about different sports and the techniques involved. At the end of each session the athletes are awarded a prize for completing the program.
The support of Mayor Brian Arrigo, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dianne Kelly, and Paul Revere School Principal Barbara Kelly have all been instrumental in the successful return of Special Olympics programming to the City of Revere.
“I am so appreciative of the hard work of parents and volunteers to bring this program to children in Revere,” said Mayor Arrigo. “I would also like to thank the staff of the Paul Revere School, who have been such great hosts.”
