BROADWAY ADVISORY GROUP MEETING SET FOR FEBRUARY 10, 2015

Public invited to attend meeting to hear about new developments with the revitalization of

the City’s central business district

Revere – Today Mayor Rizzo announced that the Broadway Advisory Group will be meeting on February 10, 2015 at 5:30pm in the Joseph A. DelGrosso City Council Chambers at Revere City Hall. This group was formed in September of 2012 in order to give businesses, landlords, and residents a voice in the Mayor’s effort to revitalize Revere’s central business district.

The development plan will create a robust commercial center by making large-scale aesthetic improvements while still preserving the historic character of the area. Recent progress in Revere’s central business district development includes the following:

  • Implementation of a new police substation and dedicated walking patrols along Broadway in order to enhance public safety
  • Ornamental lighting and sidewalk improvements from Mountain Avenue to Fenno Street, which will continue along Broadway this coming Spring
  • $1.8 million grant through the MassWorks Infrastructure Program for the demolition of the former police station and city garages located behind City Hall on Pleasant Street, which will add an additional 50 parking spaces.
  • Construction of the new Sgt. James J. Hill Elementary School and Harry Della Russo Stadium
  • New business growth along the central business district which includes For Kids Only, 39 units of senior housing at the former site of Reardon’s Restaurant, and Motorcycles of Manches

John Festa, Revere’s Director of Economic Development, will be discussing new planned improvements set to recommence this coming spring as well as an update on the Mayor’s new “Plan Revere” initiative.

One of the topics will include Dr. Randall Bock’s building at the corner of Broadway and Park Avenue that will be dramatically improved starting this spring through a partnership with the City of Revere. As for “Plan Revere”, the Mayor will commission a planning process for the entire City that focuses on our strongest assets: our proximity to Boston, magnificent waterfront, and our access to public transportation. The Mayor's Economic Development Team will kick-off the first stage of "Plan Revere" in the coming weeks. “We have prioritized our efforts to ensure that businesses, residents, and other interested parties are involved in our downtown re-development efforts since commencing almost three years ago.” stated Mayor Rizzo. “These Broadway Advisory Group meetings are a great opportunity for the community to get directly engaged with government and have input into these revitalization efforts.”
