City of Revere Municipal Aggregation - Revere Power Choice

Revere Power Choice is a municipal electricity aggregation, which is a kind of group electricity buying program.
Typically, your electric utility, National Grid, provides two sets of services to you:

  1. They deliver your electricity. Delivery services appear on your bill as Delivery Services charges.

  2. They also supply your electricity, which means they buy electricity for you and pass the cost along to you. The cost of the electricity they buy for you appears on your bill as your Supply Services charge.
But in Massachusetts, consumers actually have three options for electricity supply:
  • Your utility can serve as your electricity supplier, as just described. This is called Basic Service, and this is what we all have when we first open our electricity accounts if we don’t make any other choice. National Grid’s Basic Service prices change seasonally.
  • You can sign a private contract with an electricity supplier that locks in an electricity supply price. The duration of that price will depend on the contract you sign.
  • Your municipal government can sign a contract with an electricity supplier that you benefit from. This third option is municipal electricity aggregation, and this is what Revere Power Choice is. Revere Power Choice locks in long-term, stable prices.

Revere Power Choice benefits
Using the group buying power of our community, Revere Power Choice provides Revere residents and businesses with:

Three electricity supply choices

Through Revere Power Choice, you have three choices for your electricity supply. You can automatically receive just the minimum amount of your electricity from renewable sources required by law, or you can choose to receive 80% or 100% of your electricity from renewable sources.

Stable electricity prices

Revere Power Choice will offer long-term electricity supply prices. Current prices are fixed until December 2027. In comparison, National Grid’s prices change every 6 months or less, which exposes you to seasonal price spikes. Participating in Revere Power Choice will make your electricity supply price predictable and stable and will protect you from seasonal spikes.

Potential for savings

Through Revere Power Choice, your electricity supply price may be lower than National Grid’s Basic Service price. According to a report by UMass Amherst, the majority of communities with aggregation programs do see some savings compared with National Grid’s Basic Service price. However, Revere Power Choice prices are long-term fixed prices, and National Grid’s prices change every 6 months or less. As a result, savings compared with National Grid can never be guaranteed.

Consumer protections

Revere Power Choice has been designed with consumer protections. Chief among them, the program has no hidden fees, and you have the freedom to opt out of, or leave, the program at any time with no fee or penalty. This feature makes the program different from many private electricity supply contracts, which may include minimum participation periods and early-termination
