As Massachusetts COVID cases and positivity rates have gone down, Revere remains a COVID hotspot. State per capita 2-week positive cases are 65 cases per 100,000 people, while Revere’s is 4.5 times that at 296 per 100,000. The city’s daily per-capita case rate has remained around 20 per day, keeping the city in the state’s designated “Red Zone”, which is set at any rate over 8. The state’s positive test rate is below 1% while Revere has seen its 2-week rate drop from a high of 6.25% in July to 4.31% on September 23.  

Revere’s case rate correlates to overcrowded housing situations, and we are seeing significant impacts among our young adult and Hispanic/Latino residents. Revere’s heavily service-sector workforce has also been hit hard by unemployment, which hit a high point of 28% in June, and is down to 18.4% today – still one of the highest rates in the state. 

The City has been working to mitigate the impacts of COVID on its residents, including through its food program, rental assistance program, and business grant program, but the need remains high. 

The City activated its Emergency Response Team in early March to work on the wide variety of impacts that COVID has on a municipality. These operations have highlighted the importance of the local nonprofit sector, including not only its significant contributions to the response but also the opportunities to develop this sector into an even greater and longer-term resource. 

All applications must provide a complete description of the COVID-related area being addressed, population served, the service the funding will provide, an action plan with estimated timelines or milestones, and a detailed budget. 

Applicants will be expected to commit to work with any relevant City officials and departments as appropriate, including a data-sharing program with the City of Revere COVID Ambassador program, except where privacy laws and regulations apply. 

This grant application is split into two separate requests for funding: A request for the remainder of 2020, and a separate request for 2021. This is because the funding the City has received has specific timelines attached.

2020 Requests

Grant Applications will be accepted for amounts not to exceed $50,000. Successful applications may receive partial awards. All work must be performed by the end of 2020.

Funding source is Federal CARES Act funding.

2021 Requests

We are asking applicants to submit additional but separate funding requests to continue this work into 2021. The funding source for this is not yet confirmed. 

The awarding of funds for 2020 does not guarantee ongoing funding for 2021.

Grant awardees will be asked for 1- to 2-page reports for work accomplished, indicators and outcomes tracked.

Applicants must provide the specific data outcomes and indicators related to their work with these grant funds that they will track and provide on a quarterly basis to the city. Data may include, but is not limited to: 

• People served 
• Indicators related to population served 
• Outcomes on population served 

Reports for 2020 grant work accomplished by December 31, 2020 are due by January 15, 2021.

Reports for 2021 grant work will be provided upon provision of 2021 funding.
