City Awarded $90,000 Grant for Revere Beach Memorabilia and Art

Mayor Thomas Ambrosino is pleased to announce that the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority has awarded the City a $90,000 grant under the Authority’s Tourism Grant Program.

Calling the grant an important first step in the preservation of Revere Beach’s unique heritage, Mayor Ambrosino said: “We now have some substantial means to preserve our proud and exciting heritage for future generations.  It is refreshing and important that the state recognizes the significance of Revere’s place in history.”

Virtually everyone in Revere has had some exposure to local historian Peter McCauley’s incredible memorabilia and local artist Norman Gautreau’s vibrant nostalgic views of old Revere Beach.  Well, they will be happy to know that the majority of these grant funds will be used to acquire Mr. McCauley’s irreplaceable collection, as well as several original Revere Beach themed paintings from Mr. Gautreau.

The grant allows for the cataloging, organization and display of these collections, and it supplies the city with the necessary funds to explore ways to further develop its collection of historic Revere Beach artifacts.  Ultimately, the hope is to create a permanent home for this anthology.

Mayor Ambrosino credited Revere’s Department of Planning & Community Development for its skill in crafting the vital grant application. He also thanked the City’s State Delegation for their vigilance in shepherding the City’s application through the highly competitive grant review process.

“As the City’s emerging hospitality industry expands in the coming months and years,” concluded Ambrosino, “we can now also seriously look at progressing from the archiving of memorabilia to the challenge of recreating Revere as a major tourist attraction.”
